Trinity are a charity client responsible for running a homeless shelter in central Winchester.
Appledown Projects were appointed on a Design & Build basis to convert an existing day centre to accommodate 3 residential units for the charity. The design brief of these individual units is to deliver innovative solutions for low-cost, low-maintenance but highly effective fixtures & fittings. As such, during the design development, Appledown Projects have tackled complex drainage issues, proposed the reuse & adaption of existing fenestration and procured self-contained kitchen pods.
This is in conjunction with upgrading the existing building to achieve & exceed modern acoustic, thermal and fire regulations. Furthermore, solar PV was installed to the roof to help Trinity Winchester become less reliant on external power sources, increasing its energy dependence and long-term operational efficiency. The site is in active use throughout the construction period which has added a layer of security and logistical complexity.
